Review: The Lost Boys (And why it is so good!)

Welcome to Musically We Roll Along! In today’s blog post, we will be talking about The Lost Boys, a new musical on Broadway, and why it is so good!

ABOUT THE MUSICAL

The show focuses on two brothers, Michael and Sam Emerson, who move with their mom to Santa Carla. But they realize something is wrong… 🧛

I saw this musical in previews, when they were still making changes to the show. But after I saw it, I was blown away. Everyone was so talented, and it was such a spectacular show! The flying was soooo impressive! And the songs were soooooo good.

This show is directed by Michael Arden, who is known for directing Maybe Happy Ending and many more. Previews started March 27, 2026, and it opened on April 26, 2026. This week, they celebrated their 100th show! 🎉

THE CHARACTERS AND CAST

Michael Emerson is played by LJ Benet. For his Broadway debut, he is amazing! He previously appeared in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl. Sam Emerson is played by Benjamin Pajak. He is 15 and is really good! Lucy Emerson, the mom, is played by the one and only Shoshana Bean. She won the Tony for her performance!

And then the leader of the vampire group is David, played by (now Tony winner) Ali Louis Bourzgui. He is amazing! Star, who is Michael Emerson’s crush, is played by Maria Wirries. She is truly amazing! Max, who runs Videomax, is played by Paul Alexander Nolan. He plays his character so well!

The Frog Brothers are played by Jennifer Duka and Miguel Gil. They are so funny! And then the other vampires in the band are Marko, Dwayne, and Paul, played by (in order of how I listed it) Brian Flores, Sean Grandillo, and Dean Maupin. And the ensemble makes The Lost Boys feel like The Lost Boys.

The official recording soundtrack comes out on July 24, 2026. 🥳 All I’m going to be doing that day is listening to the soundtrack. Some songs have already come out, like Secret Comes Out, Superpower, Wild, and Now Forever. Have to Have You, and Belong to Some were previously recorded a while ago during The Santa Carla recording sessions.

THE LOST BOYS AND THE TONY AWARDS

The Tony Awards was a big day for The Lost Boys. The Lost Boys won 4 Tony Awards, with 12 nominations. They won for Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Ali Louis Bourzgui), Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Shoshana Bean), Best Scenic Design, and Best Lighting Design. They got nominated for Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, and more. I wish they won more, honestly.

Their performance was amazing! It was a mashup of No More Monsters and Have to Have You. Everyone was in the performance, and everyone was amazing. Every award The Lost Boys got was deserved in my opinion.

WHAT I THINK OF THE LOST BOYS

This musical is the absolute best! Everyone is so talented and amazing! The sets are sick, and the costumes fit the 80’s theme so well! The songs are really good, and everything is just so perfect. For me, this musical is a 10/10.

But here’s the thing. I went to watch this musical blindly. I did not know what it was. I originally thought it was about the Peter Pan lost boys, you know? Then my mom told me it’s about vampires. So I thought, “Okay, let’s try it. I may regret it, but I may not.” I do not regret it a single bit.

I loved it so much that we went back to watch The Lost Boys a second time on the final day of our trip!

WHAT IS THE AGE RECOMMENDATION FOR THE LOST BOYS MUSICAL?

The Lost Boys would probably be for tweens and up. While everything is close up in the movie and they can do more with special effects and makeup to make the vampires scarier, here you are farther from the action and it’s not as graphic! Also, there are no inappropriate scenes with a lot of kissing and stuff like that. Yes, there are some bad words, but nothing too major. Also, there are some jump scares and loud sounds, so watch out.

Just in case you did not know, this musical is located at the Palace Theater, on 160 West, 47th Street. I totally recommend this show to people who want a spectacle. The Lost Boys is an amazing musical. I really recommend this show.
